Financial Controller

Overview
NSCG are working with a growing Insurance Group to appoint a high‑impact Financial Controller. This is a pivotal leadership role with significant influence across the organisation, working closely with the CFO and senior stakeholders to strengthen financial governance, regulatory reporting, and finance transformation.
The successful candidate will bring deep Solvency II expertise and recent, hands‑on experience within the General Insurance sector. These two elements are essential and form the core of the selection criteria.
The Role
This is a highly visible and commercially important position overseeing Group‑wide financial control, reporting quality, and regulatory compliance. The Financial Controller will lead a well‑established finance function and have responsibility for statutory reporting, regulatory submissions, Solvency II outputs, audit management, financial planning cycles, and the continuous improvement of systems and controls.
You will play a central role in elevating the financial control environment, enhancing data integrity, and driving reporting efficiency and accuracy across the Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Group financial control, regulatory reporting, and technical accounting standards.
- Oversee Solvency II submissions and act as the key point of contact for SII matters across finance, risk, and actuarial stakeholders.
- Manage annual statutory accounts, external audit cycles, and ensure compliance with UK GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Deliver monthly management reporting, Board packs, and high‑quality financial insights.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and Group-wide financial planning processes.
- Strengthen controls, processes, reconciliations, and end‑to‑end ledger integrity.
- Drive finance systems improvement, automation and data quality enhancements.
- Lead and develop a motivated, high‑performing finance team.
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Deep, demonstrable Solvency II experience (non‑negotiable).
- Recent and in‑depth General Insurance experience within a regulated environment.
- Strong UK GAAP technical accounting background and familiarity with regulatory reporting.
- Proven audit management experience.
- Track record of leading high‑calibre finance teams, driving performance, and improving processes.
Qualifications
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Strong ERP, reporting systems and Excel/financial modelling capability.
Working Pattern
- Hybrid role with 2-3 days per week in London.
Compensation
- Interim: Up to £600 per day
- Permanent: c.£120,000 + package
