Abri is one of the largest housing associations in the South of England, combining genuine social purpose with financial resilience and a bold ambition to grow. Founded in the belief – as Octavia Hill articulated 160 years ago – that a decent, safe and affordable home is the foundation of a good life, Abri today manages a large and diverse portfolio of homes and non-residential assets, holds Investors in People Platinum accreditation, and is widely recognised for its ‘large but local’ culture and its focus on residents. Backed by record government investment and a bold new corporate strategy, Abri’s ambition is clear: to become a top 5 housing association for scale, customer satisfaction and colleague engagement, building a minimum of 1,000 new homes every year and doubling that contribution as quickly as conditions allow.
This is an exciting moment to join Abri as its new Director of Strategic Asset Management & Regeneration. With strong governance, financial resilience and the backing of government as a strategic delivery partner, the organisation has reached a pivotal point in its growth story. The next phase is about maximising the contribution of the existing portfolio while supporting ambitious development, driving the low carbon agenda, and ensuring that every asset decision serves both financial sustainability and Abri’s mission. The decisions taken now about the portfolio will shape Abri’s trajectory for years to come.
Working closely with the Chief Investment Officer, the Board, and the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Strategic Asset Management & Regeneration will lead a talented multi-disciplinary team spanning regeneration, long-term asset planning, and building safety strategy. They will shape how Abri thinks about its portfolio for the long term – leading on stock condition insight, investment programming, asset reviews, energy efficiency and other key areas. They will be a confident, credible voice at Board and committee level, and will lead on innovation – technological and financial – to future-proof the portfolio and advance Abri’s low carbon commitments.
For this important role, we are looking for a leader with breadth and independence of thought – someone who can hold the commercial and the social in the same view, who has led at scale and exercised real strategic and commercial judgement on large portfolio investment decisions. Experience in social housing is welcome but not essential; what matters is that you share Abri’s values, bring confidence and humility in equal measure, and feel a genuine connection to what the organisation is here to do.
