Birchgrove Retirement is a Bridges Fund Management backed Retirement Living developer and operator. When approached, NSCG were tasked to find some key members of their senior leadership team, as the business grew from strength to strength.
Embedding himself into the company, Guy came to know Birchgrove well and used his wealth of knowledge and instinct to find two members of the team that are thriving in role. Discover the full case study below.
The business was established in 2017 to provide purpose built high quality assisted living apartments for the elderly with a strategy to get to 19 sites by 2026. To achieve this target, the business needed to open 3 schemes per year. Part of the strategy is to sell the assets to an asset manager once the schemes are fully operational. As the business steps up expansion, Birchgrove needed to strengthen their senior leadership team with the appointment of a COO and CFO.
- The COO needed to have multisite living experience, the CEO’s preference was to bring someone in from outside the later living sector who could bring new ideas and deliver an operational mobilisation strategy whilst installing a culture of fantastic customer service.
- The CFO needed to have real estate transactional experience, someone who could bring rigour to the finance team, build stronger relationships with Bridges Fund Management and work with the asset managers to divest of the operational assets.
- Both assignments required a thorough market map within the living sector, where it was key that NSCG was able to identify and engage senior CFO’s and COOs who were not within the later living sector and therefore it was key NSCG promoted the opportunity in a knowledge way.
- COO. The COO – Marcus Hodges joined from The Collective and had previously worked for IQ Student and Unite Student.
- Rapahel Koifman who joined from Avanton and prior to that was at Griffen where led a £400m disposal of industrial portfolio.
- NSCG has continued with a yearlong coaching course with the CFO.
- The COO – Marcus Hodges has been in the business for a year, he has mobilised 3 operations teams to open new retirement communities. He has brought standardisation around operating procedures and systems and has worked with the development team in identifying new sites.
- The CFO Rapahel Koifman has led on a number of transactions on the sale of assets and restructuring Birchgrove’s debt facility. He has also rebuilt the finance team and has built a strong better working relationship with Bridges Fund Management
