Alan was an MP for 18 years and served for five years in Tony Blair’s Cabinet, first as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 1998 to 1999, and subsequently as Secretary of State for Health until 2003 and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster 2004-5. At the Department of Health, Alan led a radical reform programme of health and social care services including the creation of autonomous NHS Foundation Trusts, choice for patients and devolution of decision-making. He served as the Chair of the Social Mobility Commission under both David Cameron and Theresa May. His business advises governments and corporations across the world and he serves on a number of global boards, is Chancellor of Lancaster University and Chair of The Social Mobility Foundation. Most recently Alan authored a major independent diagnostic report on youth disengagement for the Department for Work and Pensions, titled the Young people and work: interim report. Published in May 2026, the review examines the sharp rise in young people who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). |
Steve is a strategic adviser on global enterprise risk, cybersecurity and enterprise transformation. He is an Honorary Professor in the Department of War Studies at King’s College, London, and sits on the European Board of Global Citizen. He is also a regular security contributor to ABC News. Steve was Group CISO at Credit Suisse. Before that, Steve was global head of Operational Resilience and global head of Technology, Cyber and Third Party Non Financial Risk Management. Steve left the National Security Secretariat of the Cabinet Office in 2017 after over 30 years of UK government service. He worked for over 30 years in a variety of national security roles both in London and overseas delivering strategic impact against complex political and security challenges. |
